Welcome to Youth Formation

Programs offered for 8th-12th Grade

At the heart of our program is growth toward independent discipleship. Many of us have inherited our faith from our families, and we are all on a journey of walking the path of discipleship instead of being carried along it.

What is Youth Faith Formation?

Faith formation is not like high school or college classes, where you check off a list of prerequisites and graduate at the end. As members of the faithful, we need to form who we are and who we will become in light of the Gospel. Being a "practicing Catholic" does not just mean that we attend Mass on a regular basis, but rather that we try to put what we gain from being Catholic into practice.

TOGETHER WE WILL BE DISCIPLES!

  • Our Vision

Our vision for Youth Faith Formation here at John XXIII is to create an encouraging and supportive environment where youth will grow in their faith together. Our goal is to provide resources, encouragement and opportunities that are accessible and relevant to all youth!

  • Schedule

Youth Faith Formation meets nearly every Sunday from 4 to 6 pm (September-May). Along with our weekly formation sessions, there will be activities, events, and retreats throughout the year. Additionally, the youth are encouraged to participate in a liturgical ministry (altar server, lector, choir, etc) on a regular basis at whatever Mass time they prefer to attend.

Youth Faith Formation is ALWAYS open to youth in 8th-12th Grade! You can also bring a friend or neighbor, even if they are not Catholic.

  • Sacramental Prep

8th-12th Grade is the typical range for Catholics to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. In the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, that formation is required to be at least 2 years, so any youth who desire this sacrament will need to participate in the formation sessions as one of the requirements for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

*There are other elements to complete, as well, so be sure to contact Dcn Doug if you or a youth you know are wanting to prepare for Confirmation.

  • Cost

There is no specific fee for participating in the Youth Formation program.

If you are registered at St John XXIII, a portion of your overall contributions are used by the Youth Formation Program.

If you would like to make a directed donation to the youth program, you may do so through the Parish Website. Those donations are used for session supplies, snacks, and participant materials.

*THE CELEBRATION OF CONFIRMATION comes with a substantial cost to the parish, so those who are participating that night may be asked to contribute to the refreshments and other costs. More information about that will be sent out close to the event.
